The new rules for DTH and cable operators by Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) will come into effect on February 1, with January 31 being the new deadline for consumers to choose the TV channels for which they wish to pay. The new regulations have been designed in such a way to reduce the costs to the consumers. How users can check for new DTH, cable TV prices?

TRAI has come up with their website portal www.channeltariff.trai.gov.in  where they list the price of all paid channels as well as bouquet packages of all channel broadcasters. The prices mentioned in their list is MRP and no distributor can charge more than the maximum retail price declared by a broadcaster. The distributor can choose to offer any discounted tariff plans to you.

DTH plans from Feb 1: This is how monthly TV plans will be after new TRAI rules.

TRAI has mandated that all DTH service providers have to offer a base pack. Their rules and regulations state that any operator can charge up to Rs 130 for the base pack having at least 100 channels.

In spite that TRAI setting the bar at Rs 130, several other popular operators are offering minimum packs starting from as low as Rs 85.

DishTV is offering its minimum pack starting at Rs 85, which includes 170 channels and services. Tata Sky is also offering its own curated base packs starting at Rs 220, with a similar number of channels as its previous packs.
