Virat Kohli Breaks Record and Becomes Fastest to 9000 ODI Runs

Virat Kohli, captain of the Indian cricket team, became the fastest to hit 9000 ODI runs, having just 194 innings,  congrats for a phenomenal innings against New Zealand in the third ODI here.  Kohli, has broken de Villiers’ record to be the fastest cricketer to attain the milestone, along with South African batsman taking 205 innings.

The 28-year-old accomplished taking 8000 runs in ODI’s, in only 175 innings, breaking AB de Villiers’ record, who took 182 innings to achieve the same. The captain, with 8917 runs, needs just 83 more runs to touch 9000 mark, and exceed the South African big-hitter.

Kohli, in 2013, became the first Indian cricketer to score 5000 ODI runs, equalling West Indies’ Viv Richards record, securing the mark in 114 innings. South Africa’s Hashim Amla currently holds the same record, in just 101 innings.

Hashim Amla, recently broke Kohli’s record, taking just 123 innings to score 6000 runs.

Kohli lately surpassed Australian Ricky Ponting’s record of most centuries (30) in ODIs. Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar presently holds the best record, with 49 centuries.

Kohli has 97 sixes to his name, and requires just three sixes to become the eighth Indian to 100 ODI sixes, and emerge as 33rd player to achieve the target.Surprisingly, his teammate Rohit Sharma needs just two more sixes to achieve the 150- mark, thus becoming the fifth Indian and the 12th player to attain the target. He has more sixes than Kohli, with 148 shots over the boundary rope.

The tale does not end here. The Delhi batsman has now accumulated 2000 runs in 2017. This is not the first time he has achieved 2000 years in a year. The last time he achieved the same was during 2012, 2014 and now in 2016.

Kohli definitely seem to take the legacy forward in this ODI against New Zealand at Kanpur. Though they lost the first ODI by six wickets, the Men in Blue striked back by defeating the Kiwis and concluded the series positively.
